Storybird is a great tool for teachers to utilize in their classroom. Teachers can set up a free account for their students, and the teacher is in charge of the account. This tool can be used in a classroom in many ways. A way Storybird can be used is having children find their favorite story on the website. After finding their favorite story students can write a review or find stories that are similar to the one he or she read. With Storybird, it has a unique application in which authors can collaborate with other authors. The students in the class could each write a page, or the teacher can connect with another teacher, possibly from another statr or country, and collaborate with another classroom on a story. Furthermore, Storybird can be used for students to create their own stories wither based on a class theme or for the students own enjoyment. Storybird is a website with endless opportunities.
Review: Storybird was extremely easy to use. After you sign up for your account with a password, and confirm you information, you are automatically brought to a video tutorial. When you want to create your own story, you have three options: choose the artwork the writer want to base the story on, take the challenge of the month that is based on a certain theme, or simply choose a theme. Once a theme is decided, the author chooses the artwork he or she would like to use. There are many to choose from, and from there the author can begin writing. The author decides how many pages he or she wants and which artwork to use. Artwork is placed on the page by dragging and clicking. Writing is done in a simple text box. When the story is completed, the author can invite other authors to collaborate with him or her or publish the story. The story is then approved by Storybird it can either be in the author's personal collection or others may view the story. More stories can be read or the author can create more stories. The story that I created, Girls Can Do ANYTHING!!!, is meant to be an inspirational tale for young women, but also to show students that they can create whatever they put their mind to. As a teacher, I would love if my students wanted to create stories on their own. Writing is a great way to relieve stress, and calm the mind. I would also have students create their own stories as an option for a project or as an assessment tool. Storybird is a tool that I will definitely use in my classroom. There are not any problems that I had with it. I am a huge supporter of this website. What is amazing about Storybird is that: it was easy to sign up, it is free, you can create anything you want, the artwork is beautiful and creative, you can choose whether you want to collaborate or not, you can always deny collaboration, your stories are private unless you want to make them public, you can ready a variety of stories, the stories have to be approved by Storybird before they are published, if you have a question you can e-mail their support team which responds within a day, and if you want to comment on a story you have to be nice or you are kicked out of Storybird. I love this website it was easy and fun to use and I hope that one day, my students will want to use Storybird.
